WHAT HAPPENS TO LABOR DAY WHEN EVERYTHING BECOMES FULLY AUTOMATED? Good News for Humans!

1000wordessay.gq
LABOR DAY is when everybody appreciates workers, especially government and private companies (supposedly). Without laborers no industry can thrive--for now--as long as industries are not yet fully automated--which big companies aim to do. And by the looks of it, they will, soon.

I wonder what Labor Day would be when that time comes--when everything is done by robots. Would they call it Robot Day in honor of machines? And would government also follow suit--employing robots instead of human employees? To some, this seems absurd, if not impossible. But I can easily envision it. What humans then would primarily do is earn a livelihood selling stuff on the Internet. No more human labor, so the logical thing to do is do a business.

You may do business offline, but a large majority of humanity will just be staying home. No point in going to your place of business physically to open it because everything will be automated. When someone wants to buy anything, he simply searches the Net and pays online. The product is sorted out and packaged by robots and delivered by the same. So business people will just stay home and manage everything by remote operation--mainly online.

I can see that by that time, owning websites and blog sites will be costly and there won't be any free sites offered anymore. Sites will become more like real estate. If you want to put up a business, you need to own a site online. So as early as now, you need to start shopping for domain names and hosting. Prepare your posterity for that time when Labor Day turns into Robot Day.

Well, probably there would still be use for a human work force--those who'd be employed online as web content providers--writing article contents and designing pages, developing web tools, accessories and apps. I don't know if robots could some day be able to write or design unique web contents. For now, they cannot do things independently or create things from their imagination. Only human writers and artists can do that--I hope.

HOW TO BEAT FLOYD MAYWEATHER IN THE RING: In the Eyes of a Street Fight Instructor

eurweb.com
I don't want to title this article, "How Pacquiao Can Beat Mayweather" because I don't think anyone in the Philippines can tell Manny how to do his job. But I want to imagine what I'd do if I were to face Floyd Mayweather in a boxing ring as an amateur boxer. So I'd be asking myself--how to beat Floyd Mayweather the shortest possible time?

First, I'd be doubly fast. Sometimes, you see Mayweather fast with his hands during shadow boxing sessions but during actual fights he tends to slow down and focus more on punching power. I'd take advantage of that. I need to move in fast and release combination punches at the shortest time possible and then get out of his firing line and his reach fast. And then come back in at the right time.

Speed and Distance are Vital Here

Now that takes super footwork and punching speed. I need to close in to him rather than stay out of his reach all the time. Since he's taller than I am (I stand about as tall as Pacquiao is) and his reach is longer, I need to move in a lot. It's awkward for big guys to punch someone smaller who suddenly darts in close to them. It's more to their advantage if you engage for a while and them back off. That makes you an easier target.

Since boxing doesn't employ kicks and knee blows and take downs, I'd go charging low, watching out for his uppercuts, and then hit the kidney areas fast and hard. Once I hurt him there and he covers his lower body, that's when I suddenly hit his head.

You Get 5 Rounds at Most

Now, why did I say "the shortest possible time" in my first paragraph? Floyd Mayweather is a strong boxer and never been defeated by strong ones either. If I don't hurt him soon enough, he'd just easily exhaust me and let my own exhaustion defeat me. So, I've got to work out my strategies the first 5 rounds of the fight. Longer than that, I'm trapped. But since Floyd Mayweather is a strong guy and wouldn't succumb easily the first 5 rounds, I have to do my thing fast.

If Floyd Mayweather were just an ordinary professional boxer, you can try tiring him out if you're a strong runner like Manny Pacquiao is. Just dance around the ring evading and hitting him hard when he's tired and his guards are down. And since he looks too serious about this fight with Pacquiao, I can also put in a little Ali-style psywar to irritate him and destroy his calm and mental acuity. I've proven this effective during sparring. That is, if I were in Manny Pacquiao's shoes, which I don't think he'd do.

So, Would Pacman Win?

Who do I think would win? In my years of teaching martial arts and sparring with amateurs, all I can say is that Manny Pacquiao should be extra careful. He was knocked out by Marquez's lucky punch already (I don't remember any other professional boxer suffering like that in the ring) and it was due to carelessly putting down his center guard a bit.

Pacquiao would win if he hurts Mayweather terribly in the first few rounds and Mayweather loses his mettle and self-control because of it. He's so afraid of losing to Pacquiao that this could happen. But Mayweather would win if he proves as fast as he is during his shadow boxing sessions.

What's China Up to On Our West Philippine Seas?

rappler.com
Pouring concrete on precious island reefs to build airstrips? For what? China has been destroying our maritime environment and I can't understand why when they have vast lands right in their home to build airstrips on. Strategic airstrip? Why near us? Against whom?

And why is the US too concerned over it, too? Concern for a friend? Ows?

I heard a story and it's a likely scenario. These giants (China and the US) have discovered a great source of energy that can well replace oil and fuel which are hinted to be near depletion worldwide. If this is true, no wonder Japan and Korea are making their presence felt on our west Philippine seas, too. Could Bill Gates' recent visit to Palawan also had to do with it? I'm not sure, but he was said to have donated huge sum for a "project" there or else bought property.

It's funny--the Philippines is said to sit on a vast source of natural resources vital to industrialized nations, but all we could do about it is wonder and watch our neighbors siphon them off for their sole advantage. It's like a big joke and it's on us. While our corrupt officials are in position to sell everything to foreigners to get hefty commissions. Just consider how a lot of properties today are owned by Koreans--in Batangas, Baguio, Palawan, and elsewhere, while a growing number of Pinoys are squatters.

I guess, China wants to grab that fuel alternative source all for herself. She's flexing her muscles there not just to showoff as a super power--she's after something valuable, and other super powers are also following suit. It's not just for "regional security" and for maintaining "peace and order." And as a rule, when powerful countries start talking about "unity and peace" in a certain region and making moves to that effect, you can be sure they're after a valuable resource.

In the meantime, what the Philippines should do is position strategically in world politics with a shrewd eye for gaining the best benefits and safety for the country (while also building our defense capabilities). We must maximize our presence in the ASEAN and the UN. We need real progressive nationalists at the forefront doing this for the general welfare. So, who among our leaders and politicians are fit for this? Anyone?

And most important, we true believers in Christ should pray for God's shield on the powerless and for real righteousness to start reining in the country, beginning in the churches.

What Course Should You Take in College?

scensiblesbags.com
As early as second year high school, I knew what profession I was going to be in--a seaman. I was excited about life at sea and traveling the world. But then, when I was in fourth year high school, I took a weird interest in Math (of all subjects). So I decided I'd be in the military--either in the navy or army scout rangers. So I prepared myself for the Philippine Military Academy (PMA).

My mom, however, didn't like the idea of me being in the military--she knew my temper well and my inordinate love for guns--so she refused to let me go to Baguio. After a few months of deciding other alternative courses, I decided I was going to be an architect. I don't know what would've happened if I pursued my PMA dream--probably I'd be dead by now or I'd be a general of the army or a commander in the navy--but it's quite important that you pursue your dreams.

You should have 3 options. In case your first option isn't possible, you're ready with 2 more alternatives. A lot of times, many people didn't end up with their original dreams for themselves. Some managed to--they graduated in the course they dreamed of. Yet, a lot of them also ended up in jobs other than what they prepared for in college. You should be ready for these sudden eventualities in life so you'd avoid serious frustrations. What future career would you fit in?

If I had not trained myself to be intellectually and emotionally flexible, I would've suffered big frustrations in life. Early on, I've learned to adjust my life to the actual situations that happened. Sometimes you can fight them and maintain your original course. But most times you cannot. You just have to play along. I don't mean you compromise your principles--I never compromise my life principles and this isn't about it. What I mean is--lots of times you just assume the form your life is taking shape in. Be water, my friend, said Bruce Lee once.

Later, I learned that my surrender to what's naturally taking place in my life was really conforming to the will of God as it unfolded. Back then, I didn't realize that this was it. I just thought I was being "taken" to a route I often didn't like. At first, God put the desire to be a soldier in my heart, only to be redirected to Architecture. After 5 years of Architecture (and contracting building some structures), I found myself developing the love for writing and speaking in public.

I so hated pastoring. I never dreamed of being one. I even swore I'd never pastor any church. But then, one thing led to another and now I find myself "called" to pastor. Do you see what happened to me? I took BS Architecture so that now I'm a writer, blogger, and pastor. So, if you dream of being a writer or a pastor, take BS Architecture in college. :D

Here's my tip--make sure what course you enroll in is the course you really want. Have 3 options for this. But then, also prepare yourself for real life. Real life is unpredictable. Just because you finished the course you love with flying colors, doesn't necessarily mean it will be your future career. I know a guy who excelled in his electrical engineering course in a prestigious engineering university, passed the board exams for it so that he got a license--but is now heavily in the siomai restaurant business making great money in it.

I can enumerate a lot more similar situations. There's the medtech graduate who is now in a full-time library supervision job. And how about the guy who studied being chef but is now in the electronics business?

So, as you enter college, enroll with enthusiasm in the course you want and then prepare for real life ahead. If you want to somewhat see ahead what career would suit you well in the future, try taking this career test for FREE.

I was Food Fest Judge Yesterday at Bresee Nazarene School

Yesterday, February 25, 2015, was Bresee Nazarene School Foundation cultural show, food fest, and awarding ceremony at the Parkway Village Clubhouse in Quezon City. They held a week long program of various special school activities and yesterday was the grande finale. I was invited over as a judge for their food fest which featured Philippine regional native food recipes. Mostly were Muslim dances and recipes, though.

I was looking for Ilocano, Ifugao, Kapampangan and Tagalog recipes but all I found was Vigan Langgonisa. I was also hoping to watch Ifugao and Ilocano dances but didn't see any. Anyway, here are some pictures:

Grade 4  rendition of Mindanao Singkil where a princes,
aide, and a warrior danced amid crisscrossing bamboos.

My son also played had a lot of roles in the program. I actually thought he'd do an arnis-eskrima number--finally developing a taste for sticks martial arts--but then it turned out to be something completely different--stick dance.

I thought it was an arnis-eskrima move, the one
my son always sees me doing. I was about to shout in excitement.
But then it was part of a cultural dance...
Look at him go!

He did some Tinikling, too!

The food fest was a different experience. I enjoyed my first tastes of Muslim chicken and other recipes plus unique gelatin presentations. I also enjoyed a lot of ref cakes with lots of mangoes!

There! So I guess that kinda signals the onset of summer this year! With BNS foundation over, all that remain are the NAT, March camping, Recognition Day, and Graduation Day. Then it'll be summer finally full swing!

2014 MMFF Made P854M: Why Filipinos Actually Have Lots of Money to Spare

www.davidbordwell.net
It's incredible. In just 11 days, the 2014 Metro Manila Film Fest made a whopping P854 M, just like that. And before that, the 2013 MMFF made no less than P934 M in 12 days! If 10 movie companies participated and had equal portions of the pie, that's P93, 400,000 each! Well, it took months to shoot the movies, of course, but we all know what qualities most of them have (most, not all). They never change. All they come up with is trash. But they make hundreds of millions, nonetheless.

The point is, Filipinos have money and they buy even trash with their hard-earned cash. Let's help them use money more wisely by providing them quality. This should signal health supplement marketers (those with quality products) to re-educate Pinoys on how to spend money on the right products--what they really need. They can do without trash movies but not without good health.

Pinoys are also not into investments. They do not know that even ordinary folks can now invest on the stock market. Or else, get a pension, life, educational, or retirement plan. Sun Life and Manulife are good ways to invest hard-earned cash instead of seeing nonsense movies.

Can you imagine the cost of being a showbiz fan? Aside from watching their movies during MMFF (these fans often watch 5 or all movies during an MMFF. If the cheapest is P250 and you watched 5 movies, that's an easy P1,250 down the drain!), you buy pictures of your movie idols--which is also so costly--plus give gifts to them during their birthdays. Then you attend their weekly TV programs and spend on that, too! And then you buy the regular issues of magazines about them.

And all the movie idols earn millions from that to build their mansions with and spend on their caprices and escapades--all from the heard-earned money of low-salaried ordinary people who later end up penniless if not wallowing in poverty. You think their showbiz idols would care one bit?

Filipinos actually have lots of money. In a sense we're poor, but not because we lack money but because we don't know what to do with it when we have it. Lack of wisdom, foresight and education--plus desperation and hopelessness--make us turn to the world of fantasy instead and see the fulfillment of our dreams in the roles and lives of our favorite movie idols.

Movie fans celebrate the successes of their movie idols but in the end they suffer the reality of bankruptcy alone. But that shouldn't be the case if only they put their money in the right places.

Marketers should realize their roles in re-educating the masses about where to put their money, especially those in the health, insurance, education, investment, and real estate businesses. By the way, if you're a marketer like I am, do you realize your first duty is to help your clients, not just make money from them?

Just imagine--with quality product and successful re-education of the masses, you help them realize their dreams and earn quite a bit, too, in the process. I believe re-educational products are the best products to sell them, second to health products. Short instructional books and e-books help, especially those who missed getting a college degree. They learn new things from a different approach and get a chance to succeed in life and pursue their dreams.

If you're desperate and have been frustrated in life a lot of times, movies can do you good, but make sure you put most of your money on an investment that can change your life.

PNP-SAF Mamasapano Debacle: Why We have to Stop Sacrificing Heroes

saf.pnp.gov.ph/
Doubtless, it was tragic. A bunch of highly trained police commandos were out to serve an arrest warrant to notorious terrorists--without backing from government, especially the AFP. Arrest warrants are served by the police, not the army, but with notorious highly trained and well supported terrorists, the warrant ought to be served heavily backed by the army.

In this case, the SAF operation only became known to the top SAF commander--and the government--amid fierce fighting and when casualties were already hopelessly heavy--and that at a site nearly impossible to quickly access. It was like a suicide mission--or perhaps a sacrificial mission?

I reviewed the profiles of the 44 fallen heroes--so young and promising, some graduates of our police academy and some of criminology colleges. They had tough training as elite forces of the Special Action force. No doubt, cream of the crop. And they were merely "wasted" there. Well, they hit the objective right between the eyes which no doubt paralyzed terrorism awhile, but everything could have ended well if only more precautions were made.

We should be celebrating their victory now with all of them alive!

My heart weeps each time young people with great potentials are wasted just like that. How can we sacrifice great talents which we can't afford anymore at this point when terrorism and criminality have worsen? And especially when the police force terribly needs good promotion to save its face. The 44 seemed to be among PNP's best bets for this purpose, but they were sacrificed, it seemed, as one would easily sacrifice a chess pawn to take the enemy's knight.

But not exactly though! For in this instance, we mistakenly sacrificed a rook and a bishop in exchange for the enemy's knight! We have to stop sacrificing heroes like this. I saw a video where army soldiers fallen from an encounter with rebels and who badly needed back-up for their wounded got no help for a long time even if they had requested airlifting of their fallen comrades from the air force. What's happening?

And the sad and funny thing is, useless and corrupt people are kept in office with all the backup and support they need and they have the temerity to hold on to power even if the decent thing left for them to do is resign and live abroad the rest of their lives. These are the folks we should be sacrificing to keep our government on the road to righteousness (so-called daang matuwid) while the ones we do sacrifice should be given a chance to prove themselves.

If we keep sacrificing worthy people and keep saving unworthy ones, where would this country be a decade or so hence?

SINULOG FESTIVAL: A Correct Perspective of the Tradition and of Christianity in the Philippines

ilovemandaue.wordpress.com
The third week of January marks the famous Sinulog Festival in the Vasayan region, particularly Cebu, Misamis Oriental, and Southern Leyte. The festival observes the fact how natives of the Visayas accepted Christianity (Roman Catholicism in particular) in the early 1500s and abandoned their native animist religion. There, the Santo Nino or boy Jesus was introduced, as well.

Where's the Box?

My box? Most times I prefer being alone and quiet, just staring afar, letting my mind run free. All this while being aware that Jesus is bes...
