More Amazing Powers of Vitamin C Newly Discovered

www.123rf.com
Never underestimate the power of Vitamin C for your health. I always tell people to take Vitamin C supplements (preferably sodium ascorbate) daily for better health and disease prevention.

I read this report from the site 4.dr-rath-foundation.org highlighting "a new concept of the importance of Vitamin C in maintaining the inter-cellular substance of connective tissues." To get a better idea, the article is titled "Vitamins C and P in Cardiovascular and Cerebrovascular Disease."

In other words, Vitamin C is powerful for preventing (or probably even treating) heart and brain problems where blood vessels are concerned.

It mentioned a few but powerful health benefits:

1. Wonderful for cellular metabolism or the chemical reactions in living organism which are vital to maintain life.
2. Helps heal wounds faster.
3. Helps the adrenal gland function better.
4. Detoxifying certain drugs from the body like sulfanomides and arsenic.
5. Effective against inflammation and infections.
6. Vital key in cellular integrity.
7. Maturation of precollagen to turn it into collagen to strengthen body cells and tissues and help them stick together. However, lack of Vitamin C will not separate cells but may cause their degeneration, the study said.

For only P5.50 I have my daily dose of sodium ascorbate. Sometimes I take 2 or 3 to prevent internal inflammation. With the kind of foods we eat today (which are sometimes permeated with harmful chemicals, steroids and antibiotics), inflammation can easily be triggered in our body organs or systems. And inflammation can be very dangerous.

During times I have no choice but to eat meat or pork, I take 2 to 3 caps of sodium ascorbate for prevention. In normal times, I take one cap a day.

A lot of diseases can be prevented by simply taking Vitamin C supplements every day, aside from eating fruits with Vitamin C. But ask your doctor about it first.

Developing Healthy Thinking the Most Powerful Way

www.socialimpactpartners.ca
MIND HEALTH.

Here's the right way to develop healthy thinking. Ready?

Some people avoid watching anything violent on TV or the Net. They want to watch only "positive" shows. And they don't want to buy their kids violent toys like swords and guns.

They do these things to develop healthy thinking. Will they work?

Healthy thinking to me is knowing truth and reality, not hiding them. The last thing I want is to make myself believe that I live in paradise, in a perfect world. I've seen folks who have developed that thinking and often get shocked when faced with cruel reality. They freeze and don't know what to do.

I thank God for allowing me to grow up in the streets seeing real everyday life, seeing violence, crimes, seeing guns fire and knives thrust. I and my dad and mom watched detective and police stories and other action-packed series on TV like Hawaii Five O, Combat, Wild, Wild West, Knight Rider, Air Wolf, The Professionals, etc.

These TV programs were about crimes, criminals, violence and weapons.

My dad and mom bought me toy guns and other combat toy equipment. My mom bought me a real hunting knife I used as a boy scout in grades 5 to 7.

And most of all, I thank God that I didn't grow up to be violent or grow up a criminal. In fact, I'm gentler, kinder and more patient and understanding than most of my contemporaries, even those who didn't like toy guns and violent TV programs. I'm more broad-minded, modesty aside.

Hiding reality from yourself does not make you a better person or less violent. It only makes you dumb, especially about real life. A lot of "decent" and supposedly "intelligent" people don't know what to do if left by themselves in the streets, especially if they suddenly find themselves in an emergency or dangerous situation.

By the way, lots of  bible characters were real tough warriors, and warriors were trained since childhood. They wielded real swords and spears and things like that.

I familiarized myself with real guns and knives (and bad neighborhoods and street thugs) so that when used against me I don't get shocked and frozen to immobility, like what happens to a lot of victims of crimes.

They also say you shouldn't hang around with bad people. In high school and college (and sometimes today), I hung around with bad people (even with killers when I was in college). But thank God I didn't end up a killer. Instead, I learned how many of them lived, behaved, felt and thought. By this, I learned about street psychology and the psychology of an attacker or criminal.

They told me communism was bad and godless. But I wasn't one to just take people's word for it. I studied Marxism-Leninism and hung around with communists. I found out that communism is more misunderstood than bad or godless.

Developing healthy thinking is NOT by closing your eyes to truth and reality but finding out what they're all about---getting to the bottom of things---and then deciding on taking the right path. You can only do this if you do everything with God as Guide.

It's not things or your environment that decide who you are or will be. It's YOU. Jesus was born and grew up in the worst neighborhoods of Palestine, but turned out in favor with God and man. It's really how you think and the kind of thinking habits you allow yourself to develop.

To the pure, all things are pure, but to those who are corrupted and do not believe, nothing is pure. In fact, both their minds and consciences are corrupted. [Titus 1.15]

Pitfalls of Being Just Positive in Life

www.stevenhaggerty.com
Mind health is not just about being mentally happy. It's also about being real.

We often hear smart people say, "Always be positive. Don't be negative." And what they really want us to do is tell lies. They don't want us to be real.

If you develop a mind that sees only the positive, you'd never get an honest picture of what's really going on around you. Worse, if you twist truth and present the negative as a positive, you may become a professional liar.

Real life is always a mix of positive and negative. The bible is full of examples. Here's one:

They have lied about the Lord; they said, “He will do nothing! No harm will come to us; we will never see sword or famine. The prophets are but wind and the word is not in them; so let what they say be done to them.” [Jeremiah 5.12-13]
The false prophet wanted Jeremiah to be positive about things, especially to see only the positive. But Jeremiah kept on talking about the negative---because that was the reality in his time, as God saw it.

What Mind Health or Healthy Thinking Really Is

Mind health or healthy thinking is not about being positive or negative. It's about being truthful and honest. Many people are lured by positive thinking and the ability to blind oneself to reality so that what one sees is only the positive.

Many people tell me it isn't right to think that there are ugly people. "God did not create ugly people. We're all beautiful," they insist.

Yeah? So, who created the ugly people I see? The devil?

Often, I tell people straightway that I'm ugly, below average and often think stupid. And they're shocked and feel sorry for me. But I don't feel like a failure about it all in any way. From there, I try to build up and improve.

Being a strong person is not denying your reality but accepting it maturely and making the best of it. Stop telling lies to yourself. Be truthful, thank God for what you have and make the best of it.

There are people blessed with fine features and appearance but there will be people who'd ask, "Why have you made me like this?" [Romans 9.20]. The bible says, healthy minds and spirits would not blame God for the way they are or the way they look. Instead, they would understand that everything is for a reason and God's power is really made perfect in weakness.

That's the right attitude to have, instead of lying and making a fool of yourself, pretending to be what you're not.

They say success in career or business is just keeping a positive mind about it all. Never think you can't do it.

Well, not quite, Here's what Jesus said about it:

Suppose one of you wants to build a tower. Won’t you first sit down and estimate the cost to see if you have enough money to complete it? For if you lay the foundation and are not able to finish it, everyone who sees it will ridicule you, saying, ‘This person began to build and wasn’t able to finish.’ [Luke 14]
You don't just fool yourself and go on with whatever comes to your mind. You should pray and think about it. Consider the pros and cons. A lot of what's in your mind are pure imagination, not God's will. And many times, you have to take risks, even if you have carefully considered and planned everything.

Risks mean, you may or may not succeed. I mean, you may be able to build a complete tower with good foundation and all that, but people still won't go up there to see the view above.

Finally, many church people think getting healed of disease means you deny you are sick. "Oh, I'm not sick. I claim healing in Jesus' Name!" Telling a lie will never work with truth.

First, you admit you're sick or accept the fact of your health condition. Then, you ask God to get rid of it. It doesn't make sense to tell God, "God, I'm not really sick. Please heal me."

A Measure of Positive Thinking

We do need a measure of positive thinking, but one that considers and weighs reality. It goes like this:

"I'd pray to God for guidance, consider pros and cons, decide and pray again. I'll do it in faith. But success or failure, whatever the result is, I know God has a good purpose. I believe that failure itself is success when things are done with faith in God. One thing for sure---I'll end up wiser and stronger whether I succeed or not."

That's healthy "positive thinking" that faces reality and does not lie.

And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. [Romans 8.28]
She wrote Harry Potter books, not exactly my type, but what she said here about failure is worth listening to.

You Want to Really Sweat Out Toxins and Burn Fat? Here's What You Should Do

jimbuchan.com
I wake up at 5 am but go out to run at 7 am or later. Why? I need to do a lot of house chores first. My wife and high school kid need my help in the morning so they can make it to their schools on time.

Before that, last summer vacation, I was able to run earlier---at 6 am when the day was still cool. But these school days, this seems almost impossible.

But I discovered something.

I found that jogging at 8 am made you sweat double or triple than if you ran earlier in the morning. Like this morning. I ran at past 8 am and man, did I sweat a lot! And I feel my stamina has also doubled, being able to run under harsher conditions, like a hotter day.

Just make sure it's not too hot for you. Avoid suffering heat strokes. And drink enough water before, during and after.

If you can jog on a hot day (but not too hot), it'd make running on a cool day a piece of cake. You can easily beat cool-day runners in physical endurance. It'll also strengthen your heart and lungs.

Just don't punish yourself too much. If I feel I've run fast enough for some seconds and my lungs are about to give way, I often slow down or brisk walk. Then, after I catch my breath. I run again. But never stop. You have to keep walking. You may slow down walking but don't stop.

Check with your medical doctor first before you try this.

Jogging and running at 8 am and onward makes me sweat a lot, and I mean A LOT! Imagine the immense detox and fat burning you get! But make sure to stop before 9 am. a 30- to 40-minute jog is good enough for the day. Anyway, I still have my shadow boxing right after.

Here's how to complicate your run on a very hot day (if you don't want to complicate matters, don't run on a very hot day. Running at 8 am is enough. But we can get some lessons from this video, anyway/ So, here it is:

What You Should Eat After Running

www.dailymail.co.uk
After jogging for 30 to 40 minutes, what should you eat? First, because you lost a lot of body fluids from sweating, you should drink tap water. Never drink cold water---it can stress your empty stomach.

Then, eat a banana, protein-rich food, vegetables and a cup or half cup of rice. Banana will refresh your heart with potassium and give you energy plus vitamins and minerals. You have just burned calories so you need the extra energy. Hence, the rice, too. Protein will help repair injured tissues and vegetables will help empty your bowels.

After jogging, your body craves for nutrient replenishment. You should replace lost nutrients and fluids. You also need a little sodium.

But never eat too much. Just eat a small meal. If you feel hungry later, eat a small healthy snack. I like eating papaya or pineapple.

But don't they say that eating a heavy breakfast is healthy? The right thing is to eat a healthy breakfast, not heavy breakfast. Heavy can often just give you acid reflux later.

What I often have for breakfast after a run and martial arts workout is some rice, boiled egg, banana, pineapple, apple and eggplant.

I saw a guy who smoked after running. I almost LOL seeing him do that. What good is a workout only to destroy your body later? Stupid, but many people do this---sometimes even professional medical people.

Some folks ask me how often should they run. In my case, I run almost everyday. I observe rest days when I relax and read books and write blogs.

Eat Zero Fatty Food and Replace with Carb Food? Here's Why This Won't Work

www.flexonline.com
I've seen lots of people cut out on their fatty food intake and instead eat a lot of carbohydrates like bread, rice, pasta and cakes. They think, as long as they cut out on fatty food and compensate by eating more carbs, they will lose weight and flatten their belly.

Sometimes, they also cut out on their meat.

On the contrary, you gain more weight by doing that and thicken your belly fat.

More carbs means higher sugar in the blood  and therefore poorer insulin function. And poor insulin function makes your belly fat thicker. Therefore, you gain more weight. Worse, the more belly fat you have, the poorer your insulin function, and so on. The vicious cycle goes on.

So, how about fats?

Eating enough fatty food helps balance hormones---and especially regulate fat-burning hormones. Many people don't know this. Learn to choose the right fats in your diet.

Here are some of them: Nuts (almonds, cashews, walnuts), whole eggs, seeds, avocado, fatty fish (tuna, mackerel, salmon, trout) and of course, olive oil.

And I want to make a special mention here---coconut oil.

Coconut oil is the healthiest cooking oil next to olive oil. But olive oil is too expensive for most of us. So, I often opt for coconut cooking oil.

Someone asked me---how about fatty pork chops and fatty fried chicken skins? Are they good fats, too?

With all the steroids and antibiotics they inject into pigs and chickens, I'd say avoid them as much as possible. But reality is, you often can't, especially if you often eat out. But I stay away from them as much as I can.

They aren't good fat.

I'd rather you ate eggs. But ask your doctor about all this first.

Here's what fats and carbs do to your body:

You'd be Shocked How Healthy Butong Pakwan Really Is

www.marketmanila.com
Butong Pakwan or watermelon seed. We've been thinking, all we get from eating it is salt (butong pakwan sold in small packs are salted for taste) and chewing fun to kill time away.

I used to just let the seeds remain in my mouth until I have sucked all their saltiness. And then I'd spew them all out.

But don't take butong pakwan lightly from now on.

Nutritionists claim butong pakwan actually has tremendous health benefits.  No less than the US National Institute of Health says butong pakwan is rich in magnesium which is important for regulating blood pressure and metabolizing carbohydrates which is good for normalizing blood sugar.

Butog pakwan also has iron, phosphorus, potassium, copper, sodium zinc and manganese which are vital minerals.

It's also so rich in protein. A cup of it satisfies 61 percent of your daily recommended dose of protein. The protein includes tryptopjan, amino acids, glutamic acid arginine and lysine. Some experts say added arginine may be good for health, like blood pressure regulation and helping treat coronary heart ailment.

So never give butong pakwan a snobbish treatment again.

Watch this butong pakwan demo:

3 Things Your Ancestors Did to Stay Healthy

www.firstpeople.us
Our ancestors did a lot of things to stay healthy. That's for sure. But I want you to see only 3 things here. Do the same so you'd stay healthy, too.

1. Moved It! They moved around a lot, possibly most times of the day, to hunt for food. Imagine, they had to hike miles, run fast a lot, climb hills, mountains, trees and cliffs just to have something to eat each meal---breakfast, lunch and supper.

I'm not saying you hunt for food each meal like that as well. What I'm saying is, keep moving. Keep busy with physical activities---walk, run, jump and climb. Walk to your office and back home if it's within walking distance, or get off the bus or jeep several corners before the exact spot you should get off. Take the stairs and if possible jump 2 to 3 steps at a time.

Avoid taking conveniences when you have to go to places---don't take the elevator or escalator. Don't take pedicabs or tricycles.

Walk, walk, walk!

Don't let yourself get tied to your desk all day. Get up and visit upper floors for a while by taking the stairs. If you need to go the restroom, use the one on the upper floor. Get brisk-walking breaks now and then and walk briskly along the corridors.

Get it?

2. Ate Organic. Okay, I know organic food is costly.  What I'm saying is, eat more organic food from now on. You may not afford eating it 3 meals a day, but at least eat organic once. Our ancestors never ate anything with preservatives, food color or chemicals. Most times they ate them raw. And definitely they had no junk food, no cigarettes, no softdrinks and no beer. And as much as possible, eat fresh vegetables and fruits lots of times. Eat fresh fruit before meals.

3. Slept Early. No TV, Facebook, electronic chat, mobile phones, or DVD when our ancestors lived. I imagine how they slept at 8 pm and woke up at 4 am.

Do these 3 and you'd stay healthy (but ask your doctor about it first).

Get an idea how (funny) cavemen lived in their time:

Best Jogging Style to Trim Your Tummy

www.gettyimages.co.uk
If you don't do your jogging right, it won't help you workout your bulging tummy. But don't worry, it will still workout your legs, lungs, heart and release lots of sweat from your head and face.

And probably make your feet ache.

But you see, among unfortunate things in working out is working so hard and yet seeing your tummy remain the same size. Worse, it's even growing bigger. It's like each jogging step pumps more air into your inflatable belly.

I pity joggers I see around my neighborhood who have been working hard daily each morning for years and yet remain pot bellied.

If you want your tummy trimmed, this is how you should jog.

1. Do it uphill. The best place to jog is where the ground slightly ascends, like here on our street. As you climb uphill, hop and lift your body with each step, making your steps or strides as far reaching as possible---but not too much to make you look like a desperate zombie.

What I also do is to "claw" my stepping foot on the ground and pull my body forward with it as I'm going uphill. With the hopping and wide stride and "clawing," you'd feel your tummy muscles tense up---front belly and its sides. Put your fingers on it and you'd feel your abs tensing up with each step.

Be sure to hop and lift your body with each step. Don't simply drag yourself. If your steps make noise, you'd know you're just dragging them.

2. Run fast. Yup, run fast now and then uphill. After spending time slow-pacing your jog, break into a fast run. Again, make sure your steps don't make noise. Slow down as soon as you feel the need to.

3. Shadow box. While jogging uphill, suddenly move sideways with short dodging steps, as if shadow boxing, darting here and there. Make the dodges fast, as if you're a pro boxer. The sudden moves and twitching and muscle tensing is good for your lower body, especially your tummy.

Now, before you do all these, make sure you check with your medical heart doctor.

And last, whatever you do, DON'T jog like this, please:

Quick Snacks that Wreck Your Health

www.fittodo.com

I know it's tempting to eat small cakes, slices of rolls, biscuits cookies and stuff like that when you're snacking.  I love soft white bread with thick egg and mayonnaise spread inside. And we think breads, biscuits and pastries are harmless because we see no pork or animal fat in them, especially when we read zero fats in the ingredients.

But watch out for this terms---hydrogenated vegetable fats or oilstransfat and aspertame.

Just because we see the word "vegetable" we think it's healthy. Hydrogenated vegetable fat is really dangerous for the heart. So is soya or canola oil, though they don't have anything to do with animal fats. So if you are fond of eating biscuits to appease hunger and you do this regularly, I hope you don't end up with a heart problem someday.

By the way, almost all biscuits have sugar, even those that don't taste sweet. In fact, almost all food products have refined sugar in them. Anything with refined flour and sugar wrecks your health to the max. And I mean TO THE MAX.

Hydrogenation puts hydrogen atoms in oil, the process reduces the amount of unsaturated fatty acids and increases saturated fatty acids in the oil. When you take in lots of saturated fatty acids, you increase your triglyceride levels which may lead to serious heart problems.

Healthy eating means you lower your saturated fats intake. But you do the opposite when you always eat quick snacks like cup cakes, biscuits and cookies with tansfats or hydrogenated vegetable fats. These fats are also present in most sandwich spreads. So, white bread (again, which is bad for your health) plus sandwich spread with hydrogenated vegetable oils equals serious health problems.

But Here's What's Really Bad

If saturated and unsaturated fats confuse you, just forget about them and focus on only two things--eat very low carbs and quit eating sweets and any foods with sugar. And eat less times a day. If possible, eat just once a day. Experts call it OMAD--one meal a day. Why? Three reasons:
  1. It's sugar that causes a lot of deadly diseases like diabetes, kidney disease, heart disease, inflammation that leads to autoimmune diseases, cancer and others.

  2. Carbs (carbs from processed foods and grains) worsens what sugar is destroying in your body.
  3. Multi-meals a day weakens your immune system, disables your body to detox and wrecks your digestive system which affects your immune system.
Thus, snacking habit punishes your body systems and upsets your body's natural fat burning work. Eating once a day (or what experts call intermittent fasting) will powerfully re-start or reboot your body system and fix your system "glitches." In short, give you new health.

I eat one meal a day although sometimes I feel a bit "snacky." But I snack before 4 pm (well, sometimes 5 or 6 pm if my wife fixes delicious scrambled eggs or other egg specialties---she knows I love eggs). Or if I feel like enjoying my bulletproof coffee in the afternoon (coffee with a lil bit of butter, cream and cacao). But definitely no more eating anything past 6 pm.

And yup, you heard right. Eating fats is much better than eating bread, biscuits, pasta or rice cakes.

I often snack on boiled eggs. If no eggs available, I eat native "kesong puti" which has nothing but milk fats, a lil bit of vinegar and salt. It costs a bit more but it's safe, natural and keto-friendly.

When I'm out of the house I find so little snack options from grocery stores. So I settle for a banana, water or coffee and Rebisco biscuits (this biscuit has zero sugar and made of wheat flour. It's still flour but at least it's not white flour. Sometimes, you have no choice but to compromise a bit). Sometimes I try to be prepared and bring along my own boiled egg snack 😁.

So just remember two things--no sugar and very low carbs. More infos here below (if you can understand him talk):

What Happens If You Don't Take Your Afternoon Naps?

www.theguardian.com
As kids we hated taking naps in the afternoon. We were forced to take it and would be punished for not doing so. So I and my cousin, Arnold, often tried escaping from afternoon naps.

When we did, it was like conquering the world.

But often we got caught and suffered incarceration in our bedrooms. Later, we filed protests.

But when I became a young adult and adult, I started appreciating afternoon naps, especially when I began doing a job. I was a working student in college so I napped inside public jeeps on my way to school from work. Once I reached school, I was totally refreshed.

(I want to tell you how I managed to nap in the office on office hours and in class while our boring profs lectured---and never got caught---but I won't).

A good nap is from 20 to 30 minutes. Overdoing it, though, would disrupt your sleeping pattern (and would get you caught at work or at school). You may find it hard to sleep at night if you prolong your afternoon naps.

What happens if you miss your naps?

It would probably compromise your alertness and performance in whatever you're doing---studies, reading, focus, your job, driving, sports, or even just walking. Napping helps reduce mistakes and accidents. NASA found out that pilots and astronauts who napped 40 minutes improved their performance by 34% and alertness by 100%.

Naps do not compensate for sleep loss at night, but it can rejuvenate you physically and mentally to cope up with the remaining activities of your day in the afternoon. Afternoon naps can even enhance night sleep, as long as they remain naps, not full-swing sleeps.

According to SleepFoundation.Org, here are famous men who napped: Winston Churchill, John F. Kennedy, Ronald Reagan, Albert Einstein, Napoleon, George W. Bush and Thomas Edison.

If you dream to be great someday like them, you can take a chance with afternoon naps.

Here's how NOT to take a nap:

How Anger Endangers Your Health

www.apa.org
It's normal to get angry. Even Christ got angry a lot of times. But the bible cautions us on the side effects of this emotion. Thus, it says, be angry but don't remain angry all day. Specifically, it says don't let sundown catch you still angry.

Is it okay then to be angry 23 hours a day? Well, try it and see what happens?

I believe the idea really is to cut-short anger instead of prolonging it. Anger triggers harmful chemical reactions in the body. These reactions then translate into toxins and higher acidity levels in the body (like higher uric acid levels) as well as the formation of free radicals. I don't know how, but that's what happens.

But you also need to express anger because suppressing it also builds up stress and pressure that may be harmful to your blood pressure and heart health.

Here's the picture---zero anger is bad, but so is too much of it.

So, you need to stay in-between. And that's where the bible wisdom comes into play---be angry but don't prolong it.

In my search for a healthy fit life and wellness, I discovered one vital truth---there's really no reason to stay angry a long time. Why? It's as simple as this---if you don't approve of something, then don't. You don't need to be very angry about anything. Just disapprove anything odious then forget about it.

I encounter guys and instances that really piss me off and I get angry, sometimes terribly angry. But I always follow the bible tip---let go of it immediately. Don't stay angry for more than 5, 15 or 30 minutes. The longest is an hour if it's really that bad.

After that, switch to happiness or cheery mode. You have the controls in you and you can easily change channel anytime you want.

First, I always think of God---I don't want to disappoint him. Second, I think about my health. No one and nothing is that important to wreck my health. I won't allow it.

Remember these things. This is for your health and wellness.

It's useless to be exercising regularly and eating healthy if everyday your character becomes more rotten because you harbor hate feelings in you.

What I do is laugh and eat with God, laugh with my wife, eat good dessert with her, or watch a real good movie on Youtube.

It always works.
